El diagnóstico de la obesidad en niños y adolescentes dista mucho de ser semejante al realizado en el paciente adulto. Existen consideraciones muy importantes a tomar en cuenta al momento de realizar el diagnóstico en esta población; esto también significa que la estadificación de la enfermedad y su gravedad serán vistas desde una óptica diferente a lo observado en el paciente adulto.

En la clínica, estas diferencias se hacen patentes antes, durante y después del tratamiento.
